Introduction

The following Tomás Luis de Victoria´s biography presented here, is structured according to the three major stages that historians and musicologists have been determining for their life and work. These three stages get in with the periods he spent in the three cities in which lived: his native city, Avila between the years 1548-1565; Rome, where he resided between the years 1565-1585; and finally, his return to Spain, in Madrid until his death, 1585-1611.
